This is a journal from a long-ago vacation at the family cabin. Thought I'd make this available to my kids for a walk around the circle like the old days.
It seemed to take forever to finish all that needed to be done before our trip north. Jillian woke at 4:30 after a bad dream and went downstairs to cook crepes for the family, although the rest of us didn't awaken until 7:30 or so. A morning of prodding and reminding and laundry and cleaning made all of us anxious for a vacation. At last we were off. Mom's reading aloud of Hatchet kept the ride entertaining for those who remained awake. (Jillian's pose while sleeping was also quite entertaining--sitting up, face to the ceiling, mouth open.)
Three or four bathroom stops later, we were there, and the kids promptly dug out video games and Jillian ran through a song or two on the piano while Mom and Dad unpacked supplies and clothes. Birthday surprises awaited Jillian and Cameron--both were excited to see them! We watched a "Popeye" video--the real cartoons--and had a hamburger supper which set off the smoke alarm. Geez--it wasn't all that smoky!
It had been a long day--it was late--we turned in for a good rest.
